Hoist Inspection

Jib Crane Beams

  • Inspect and verify load carrying capacity of all jib crane assemblies located in facility.
  • Inspect all devices, lifts, beams and hoist to insure that they are in good repair and appear to be safe. Check for frayed cables, missing bolts…. etc.
  • Determine capacity at end of load beam first if ID plate is available and if not then use capacity of hoist/chain fall attached to jib crane beam.
  • Position test load equal to 150% of verified capacity 6” from floor and hold in position for no less than 5 minutes without failure.
  • If device sustains load position for five minutes and passes inspection affix serial tag with current year in a place as to not hinder operation and in a location at to be clearly identified upon later inspection.
  • If jib crane beam does not have capacity stenciled, then 2” stencils should be used and painted direct upon completion of device inspection. I.E. – CAP = x/x TON
  • Complete PDF fillable form certificate for jib crane.

Hoists

  • Inspect and verify load carrying capacity of all chain hoist assemblies located in facility.
  • Inspect all devices, lifts, beams and hoist to insure that they are in good repair and appear to be safe. Check for frayed cables, missing bolts…. etc.
  • Determine capacity using the manufacturer’s serial and model plate located on the hoist. Any hoist without manufacturer’s identification shall not be certified.
  • Position test load equal to 150% of verified capacity 6” from floor and hold in position for no less than 5 minutes without failure.
  • If device sustains load position for five minutes and passes inspection affix serial tag with current year in a place as to not hinder operation and in a location at to be clearly identified upon later inspection.
  • If jib crane beam does not have capacity stenciled, then 2” stencils should be used and painted direct upon completion of device inspection. I.E. – CAP = x/x TON
  • Complete PDF fillable form certificate for hoist.
  • Hoist and jib crane beams shall be considered paired devices but each shall have ID and Certificate completed.

Magnets

  • Inspect and verify load carrying capacity of all magnet assemblies located in facility.
  • Inspect all devices, lifts, beams and hoist to insure that they are in good repair and appear to be safe. Check for frayed cables, missing bolts…. etc.
  • Determine capacity using the manufacturer’s serial and model plate located on the magnet. If one is not available, then use the hoist’s capacity or the beams capacity for documentation and testing.
  • Position test load equal to 150% of verified capacity 6” from floor and hold in position for no less than 5 minutes without failure.
  • If device sustains load position for five minutes and passes inspection affix serial tag with current year in a place as to not hinder operation and in a location at to be clearly identified upon later inspection.
  • Complete PDF fillable form certificate for magnet.

Platform Scale

  • Inspect and verify capacity of one platform scale located in the manufacturing facility.
  • Test and inspect using 500 lbs. of test weights to calibrate the corners and 1,000 lbs. of known test weights for the distributed load test.
  • Calibrate using provisions and tolerances set forth by Federal handbook 44.
  • Document as found and as left results using CRS – Certificate Retrieval System
  • Placed serialized inspection tag on device upon completion.
